Oh, God!

As they say, there are two things you should never discuss at a porn blog: religion and politics. So, in the past, I’ve tentatively violated the prohibition against politics, so I might as well go ahead and break the rest of the rule!

Let me start by confessing that I’m a “non-believer.” Before I go on, I have to say that I don’t like that label, nor do I like defining myself as an “atheist.” It doesn’t sit well with me to identify myself by what I DON’T believe. In my own little mind I call myself a Mythisist. I know this term may have other specific meanings, but for me it nicely encapsulates what I DO believe – that all religions (ALL) are based on myths – flawed fictional stories written by humans in a effort to explain the elements of the universe that are (or were) difficult (or impossible) to comprehend. I don’t intend to insult anyone else’s beliefs with this position – if it brings one comfort to believe that Jesus, or Mohammed, or Vishnu, or Yoda, or Zeus, or Ra, or Odin, or Moroni, or Cthulu, or any of the host of other invisible divine entities humans have revered throughout the millennia use their magic powers to intervene in your life so that things go your way, then I’m happy for you. That’s not to say I won’t be silently judging you and downgrading my estimation of your overall capacity for rational thought, but I’m all for you believing whatever brings you comfort (unless you’re my doctor…I’m not going to put my own personal biology in the hands of someone who doesn’t accept evolution!).

And, for the sake of full disclosure, I’m a total hypocrite. Despite my heretical beliefs, I do (sporadically) attend a Protestant church. My husband and I mainly, I think, do this out of habit as we were both raised in church-going households (though not especially strict when it came to the rules – Thou shalt not leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight was by far a more important commandment for me growing up, for example, than coveting my neighbor’s wife). I do enjoy the social aspects attending our little church offers, and it helps that our friends and neighbors don’t have to wonder if we’re Satan-worshipping heathens. Community aside, I also like the idea of allowing our kids to be exposed to the church (mostly through Sunday school) so that they have enough of an understanding about Christianity to be able to make their own informed decisions about religion when they are of an age to care about such things.

Okay, so, for those of you who haven’t yet deleted my site from you favorites list and closed your browser in a righteous huff, I’m telling you this because I’m curious about the intersection of religion and erotic stories (if there is one). I’ve been playing around with religion a little in “Open Door Policy,” as many of you have surely noticed. I didn’t really set out to create Vera as a devout Catholic just to pull her down into the cesspit of incestuous sin that most of us love to wallow in. ODP has very much been a writing experiment for me – no planning, no outlining, no character sketches, or any of that. I sit down and write each chapter not really knowing what’s going to happen or where the story might be leading. It’s not my natural style, but it can be very exciting to discover what my characters are going to do as it happens on the page. The idea of Joanne being the corrupting force in her otherwise pious friend’s life has been very arousing and gratifying for me. And, based on some of the feedback, this is an exciting aspect of the story for many of you as well.

I say this all to bring me around to the point that I’m intrigued by the idea of doing more in mixing porn and religiosity. The theme of a staunchly religious person (I always picture this person being a woman) being drawn into a debaucherous sexual situation has endless potential. But, beyond that, most all of our taboos are rooted in religion, and so adding that extra dimension to the taboos of incest, multiple-partners, same sex relations, and so on only amps up the perversion in any given story line that involves the mixing and matching of the two (or three, or four).

For some reason, the thought of doing Christian Erotica has been nagging at me for several months now. In this case I’m not talking about the kind of story where the Christian characters are corrupted or violate the holy tenents of their beliefs, but where they are confronted by a sexual quandary that must be resolved in keeping with biblical teachings in order to maintain their marriage in a wholesome and dutiful manner. I don’t know if I could pull it off, but the challenge of writing a dirty story that truly devout people would read, and (hopefully) masturbate to, really fires up my nether bits. Yes, I suppose the idea of playing the corruptor has a huge appeal for this perv!

I’m also curious about other religions as well. I had someone write and ask if I could do a story about a pair of Mormon sisters going on a mission together and doing some experimenting with each other. The idea really appeals to me, but I don’t yet know enough about Mormonism to convincingly tackle something along these lines. Likewise, I’m always intrigued when I get an e-mail from an admitted Muslim who enjoys my stories. I know the stuff I write MUST be forbidden within Islam, and so I love to find out how they justify reading my smut (and presumably beating off their no-no pole in the process). I don’t know if there’s much to exploit when it comes to Jewish, Hindu, or Buddhist circles, but I’m more than willing to learn!

Anyway, I don’t know where any of this might lead me, if anywhere, but I thought I’d throw it out there and see if any of you have an opinion on all of this. Would you prefer to keep religion out of your porn, or does the idea of a religious person giving in to temptation and discovering the joys of transgressive sex hold a special appeal for you? Is my notion of writing wholesome bible porn a hare-brained concept or a viable consideration? Should I risk death by jihad and write about what really goes on behind the curtains in the Sultan’s harem? (If I remember correctly, I think there was some pretty racy stuff along these lines in the original “1001 Nights.” When the Sultan is away, the harem will play.) Or, do you have any other random thoughts related to socially critical magisteria of religion and porn?

I promise to give you absolution after you confess your dirty, dirty sins to me…

  1. I have to say, I really like my stories to have a religious component. Growing up Catholic, I was exposed to the more liberal side of the Church and even had priests tell me not to worry about masturbating. Of course, I sought out the conservatives who warned me of the “secret sin” and masturbating would lead me straight to hell. Or Rachael’s blog, whichever came first. ;)

  2. Two things. I often thought about fucking on the preacher’s office desk, and really got off fantacizing about doing it in the restroom in the rear of the church, while the service was on going, with a screamer.
My mother was very religious, as are many poor people. so we attended church three times a week, every week, while I was growing up. It seems to me that the poorer one is the more inclined they are to be religious as they don’t wish to anger their god as they fear he won’t treat them with kindness. In fact, they often give more to the church than they can afford as they wish to please their god.
One of many church scandals that surfaced while growing up was when my mother’s best friend, a deacon’s wife, was caught fucking the pastor by her husband.

  3. A few years ago I was in Italy and what really surprised me was at all the newpaper and magazine stands you could buy porn mags, DVDs and Bibles along with rosary beads. It turns out the biggest fetish in Italian porn is of nuns and priests having sex. Who knew the Italians were so kinky….

  4. I tried. I really really tried. But I just couldn’t jack off to this article. And I’ve masturbated to a cereal box. But then I re-read a few episodes of ODP and viola!

  5. I’m a Southern Baptist, but my dad is an ex-Catholic, and I can tell you, from seeing the way the man still struggles with unnecessary guilt over all kinds of stuff, I don’t see how Vera would realistically be able to withstand the impact to her conscience for very long. She may slip, but her guilt and shame would eat her alive to the point of ruining it for her. There are just some things that good orgasms can’t overcome. If she were protestant, it would be much easier because they are no where near as strictly devout as Catholics, not to mention Latin Catholics. It’s difficult to overthrow beliefs that have been literally beaten into you.

On the lighter side, my mom told me a story about when she was a little girl and this old church lady caught her holding herself while doing the pee-pee dance. She looked down at my mom and said, “You NASTY little girl,” before running and telling my grandma what she had done. The thing is, my mom was only like 10 years old and fully clothed. The fact that this old lady’s mind goes straight to masturbation is fairly telling, I think. My grandma just laughed it off and told my mom not to pay any attention to that old woman. This is the same grandma who sang in the church choir for over 30 years, whose husband was a deacon, and who also encouraged me and my cousin to go skinny dipping while she watched, then caught us fooling around with each other, but didn’t say anything to our parents and still let us keep going skinny dipping together.

  6. I was raised Catholic, attended Catholic school from K to 8, then three years of religious instructions. (I got naughty stories for ya) I was also raised in the beliefs/legends/myths of my Mohawk grandmother.

Religion and sex intersect mightily in both.

  7. As I understand it, hate is one of the steps towards love. Indifference is the opposite of love. I would suspect that any strong negative reactions you receive are from folks who may be teetering on loving the idea. However, for me, I am indifferent. Religion does not bring back positive memories (just boring weekend mornings) and there are no taboos to break down. However, I am just an n of 1.

  8. A nun being defiled my her brother or sister would be hot,or vice versa, a priest defiling his sister or a young niece. I’m all in. Wholesome bible porn,I’m not to sure about. But if you write it,I’ll read it and see if I like it.

  9. That picture has always made me laugh. My usual response is, “Why not? I have two hands.”. Seriously though, as an atheist I have been enjoying the fact that Vera is being “Corrupted” in your story. There’s only one problem with calling what she’s doing being corrupted, it’s been proven time and time again; holier-that-though people are usually the biggest perverts. The biggest difference between them and normal people is they punish themselves after their acts of debauchery.
Rachel, here’s an amusing fact for you. About 80% of all the children in catholic orphanages were children of priests and/or nuns. A lot of the time they were the children OF priests and nuns. Father Silas and Sister Margret conceived little Sally and nine months later she’s a ward of the church; and John Q. Public is none the wiser about their “Pure” priest and nun.

  10. I think this is a very interesting twist and challenge to undertake. It seems that religion and sexual escapades seem to happen more often than most believers would like. There was the zealot who devoutly preached on the sins of homosexuality only to be caught on his knees in an airport bathroom sucking a big hard cock. There are countless more examples that I’m sure you know about but don’t need to be mentioned. There are some porn sites that have capitalized on this idea. One in particular has the theme of Mormon college girls living in dorms being seduced into lesbian acts. I’ll confess, its pretty hot too. If pressed, I could probably find the site. LOL I am confident you can pull it off.

  11. Go for it. I think ODP proved you can make a pious woman and the resr of us horny.

Only thing I would say is that I would much prefer a story where the characters slowly descend to debauchery instead of taking the super fun slide of incest all the way down. In your mormon sister example, entire chapters could be around lustfull looks, dirty thoughts and some very guilty masturbation sessions. Maybe it says more about my own kinks that I would stretch the situation until it’s truly unbearable for the characters.

I love your writing and you can definitely pull this off successfully. Can’t wait to read it

  12. I typed my comment which turned into a rant about religion. It’s deleted… thank god..Er .. pun intended.

Go for it Rachel. Let it flow from inside, don’t plan it. Just do it. ODP is a great work and as you say, it just flowed from within. I don’t think anyone will be offended if you get the neouonces of any particular religion wrong. Those people will unlikely to be reading anyway.

Is that pic at the bottom of the post a real billboard? Where did they get the picture of your hand?

Now that the holidays are out of the way and your technical issues are in the past, I look forward to more of your hot hot hot work.

  13. From what I remember of my readthrough of the Bible a few years ago (Not the KJ version, btw), if there is a chapter about the rules of sex between man and woman, it’s in the OT (Jesus said to love your neighbour, not to fuck him/her). I think it was Deuteronomy or Numbers.
The problem is, you don’t want to write erotica based on that, unless you’re into extreme-BDSM-master-slave-relationship-fucked-up-abuse-and-shit. For example, if a woman is on her period, she must be isolated as to not contaminate the rest of the clan. Another good one is what happens if a man rapes your daughter: he must pay you back a certain sum, and then marry her. It’s either that or she gets stoned to death (stoning is not exclusive to Islam).
Maybe other chapters allow for a better relationship between husband and wife, but I doubt it. Whatever your opinion on feminist theory, but the OT was written in a very VERY patriarchal society, where women and girls were worth as much as cattle.
    So sayeth the Lord.

  14. I recently played a short game that’s in development called
    Summertimesaga.com DL’d the most recent version 14.52

It can be played in cheat mode so you can get through it
in about 10hrs of play. Its a FREE game or i wouldn’t have
mentioned it here. But here’s the important part.
It’s totally focused on Incest & the “Mia” story line has to
do with Catholic Sin and slutty corruption of a mother for the
    greater good of her family….

Just fun & hot something to do if your bored and would like seeing
    a fanatical Crusader Nun wearing a strap-on…..

  15. I am proud of you for your bravery of saying this knowing that there may be some level of negative backlash from readers. In my personal view, I find it hard to believe that people would get up in arms when the very nature of your erotica that you share, and invite others to share theirs, is against some key principles of the main stream religions.

I say, keep doing your naughty thing, and I will keep stroking my dick to your naughty thing. <3<3<3

  16. I don’t think I’ve ever come across any “wholesome bible porn” in all my perverted web surfing! But if anyone can pull it off, I am sure it’s you Rachel. I do miss the email updates also, but I’m sure you have been busy with technical issues. As always I look forward to your continued writing of nasty stories!

  17. Many years ago I was schooled by nuns who wore habits and priests who wore frocks?. As a youngster growing into maturity, I often wondered how both of these communities “handled” their natural desires. I know of priests who “snuck around” for that release and a number who left their vocation to “follow the urge” in an above-board manner. But other than hearing about the nun who “left the convent”, that convent was always a mystery that I’m sure holds many a sexual story, from lesbianism to BDSM in the case of Mother Superiors and novitiates. Therefore, I’m intrigued and encouraging of your project. As always, best to you and your efforts as a loyal follower.

  18. Aren’t the naughty nuns are all sisters? Apart from Mother Superior. That would make it bingo for incest automatically where they are involved.
In other respects this could be a major technical challenge. Let’s consider who might be a filthy father – someone who likes ‘em young and spends Sunday on his knees like, um, say, Roy Moore! See the problem? More likely to make us sick up a little in the mouth than squirt our love juice all over.
But if anyone can do it, I’m sure it’s you, Rachael.

  19. I love the religious aspects of a story. I would say that I am a believer, yet having been in 12 step programs I am quite comfortable with “a god of your own understanding”

I like how you raise your kids, that is how I raised mine. All of mine are believers, none of them are remotely devout.

I have a penchant for writing Naughty Nun type stories, not because I want to pick on Catholics, but because I find the topic hot :)

BTW I have not got an e mail notice from you on the last two blurbs you wrote. Glad I came back to have a peek
